The disaster of Stalingrad, which cost 300,000 soldiers in Germany, allows Russian forces
to resume the offensive against a German southern front completely disorganized.
On February 14, 1943, Marshal Erich von Manstein is placed at the head of the entire southern front.
Von Manstein then chooses to retreat, leaving the Red Army sink the German lines.
On February 22, German troops resumed the offensive and pushed the Russian army which
refueling is missing due to logistical flow too tight.
The city of Kharkov was taken over by German units on March 15 after six days of fighting.
