Scheiße! - Close to Gumrak airfield - Dec. 1942
Following Operation Uranus triggered by the Soviet army on 19th November 1942, Stalingrad is now encircled. After the refusal of Adolf Hitler to allow a breakthrough of German forces besieged, the fate of the 6th Army depends partly on the airlift provided by the Luftwaffe. Supply needs for 290,000 soldiers are estimated at 750 tonnes / day by the Staff of General Paulus, Hermann Goering promises 550tonnes/jours, in fact it is an average of 94tonnes/jours which will be delivered with the loss of approximately 265 transport aircrafts.
My diorama describes an Opel Blitz in trouble ("General Winter" is the strongest!) carrying some ammunitions between Gumrak's airfield and Stalingrad.
